Books by the Pound...

Pound of Flesh that is.  I'm looking at my bookshelves and thinking I will never be able to organize these 400+ Volumes in a way that is easily accessible, expandable and looks inviting and decorative.  My book load is about to tipping point - I now have more volumes than I can visualize where I have placed each and put my fingertips on it. - I have  growing groupings of books and I just need a little organization and decorative inspiration.
So, I am re-posting my "Mom's" poem in hopes that some of  her tenacity will rub off - well, once my incredulous book stack laughter subsides.

It Couldn't Be Done
Somebody said that it couldn't be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;"
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

Love this! I also need ideas for beautiful bookshelves; tell me what you find; what kind of decorative inspirations you meet along the way:)

My saying is "If it is not on the calendar it doesn't happen" so, yes... let's do it!

Have a blessed week, my sister.

Becky,
Thanks for the comment and question.
I am big on book stacks on top of my shelves and on the mantle. Some books are too pretty to shelf... and actually my husband now stores his pipe and tobacco box on top of my "Anique and Vintage" bookshelf (his idea - he brought it in when it started to freeze), it looks very cool and I can't even take credit.
As far as calendar, I hear you, my problem is that I'm a perpetual overstuffer. So things get bumped regularly. However, I am so happy that moving and organizing books is finished- at least for a few weeks.
Blog is all template, thanks, and I really enjoy following your blog, you and daughter are incredible photographers and your son's art is great!
Have a Blessed 4th Week of Advent. May we always be wise to Seek Him,
With Love
Jo

I love that poem! And I feel your pain on the bookshelves. I think the world would be a much better place if everybody simply had more bookshelves.

Merry Christmas, Jo! =)

Thanks Keeley,
I already knew you were a "bookie" =o} Got a book I know you would like, it's about your favorite thing other than your fam. Have a Merry Christmas - Jo.
